"Not my child Monday!"

Did you almost die of embarrassment when your child pulled their own pants down at the library? Want to scream bloody murder when your toddler took a pair of scissors to the dog's fur? Feel like a terrible mother when your kid said a four-letter-word at a back to school event? Well don't! Mothers aren't perfect and neither are children. Let's 'fess up today because it's Not my child! Monday!

Sound liberating? Then let's get going!

It was certainly was not my child who while sitting in my lap at the pediatricians office decided to give me an anatomy lesson.  He did not say "Mommy you have boobs?" as a I quickly brushed his hand away and tried to continue my conversation. And it wasn't my child who continued to tell me about "boobs" and "bras" during the entire visit. Thankfully our pediatrician is a woman so I wasn't too mortified.

And it was not my child who broke the R.O. spout while trying to use it as a drinking fountain.

Nor was it my child who climbed on the kitchen counter, got the faucet sprayer and began to water the artificial flowers on the bar. When asked what he was doing he did not say "I'm helping Nana water the flowers."

My child would never be the one to break the ceramic dog bowl at our Pastor's house.

It wasn't my child who used the meat thermometer as if it was a hammer until he shattered glass all over the kitchen. Not my child.

Nor did my child color on the t.v. screen with his markers, he did not color on the kitchen counter with a permanent marker, and break ANOTHER picture frame.

After putting him down for a nap it was not my child who got up to dig for some treasure in the closet. Where he did not find his Nana's hat box and his toddler size vacuum. He did not think it was a good idea to shove the vacuum handle through the hatbox resulting in them both needing to find a new home in the dumpster. No, not my child.

And today while I was nursing Collin it was surely not my child who climbed onto the kitchen cabinets (he does not seem to do this often) to eat as many hershey kisses as he could before I caught him.

Today while he was supposed to be taking a potty break it was not my child who flushed an entire box of wipes down the toilet. (thankfully they were the flushable ones).

Destructive, No, Not my child!

Collin 4 Months Old

Collin had his 4 month well child check this morning. He weighed in at 16 pounds 12 ounces (80%), 25 1/4 inches long (60%), and his head measured 17 inches (75%). Wow, what a fatty! I love it. Dr. R said that he looked perfect and healthy. She watched him use his hands and grip some toys to observe his hand functions. She said that between 6 and 9 months we would begin occupational therapy to help with his fine motor skills. I think this will be good for Collin and myself. It always helps when you feel like you are being proactive. I don't doubt for a minute that he will be able to do everything his friends do, it just might be his own way or take a little more work.
Collin is cutting teeth all over the place. So far two have broken the skin but we can see a couple more close behind. So I tried giving him a biter biscuit to chew on while I cooked dinner the other night. He thought it was great, as you can see in the picture . In the top picture he had just finished dinner. I have decided to make my own baby food. This was our first go at any food other than cereal. So butternut squash it was. And he loved it. I tried avocados the other night, but that didn't go over so well.

Weekend Fun

This past weekend was Chris' annual company party in Albuquerque, NM. It has always been such a fun weekend to be away, dress up, and relax. Since Nana and Papa were going out of town for their wedding anniversary, Mimi was coming in town to watch the boys. All along I didn't feel good about leaving Collin at home. I knew that my mom could handle it (after all she did have 4 kids of her own) but I didn't think that I could. So last minute, on Thursday, I started making phone calls to try and find a babysitter for the night of the party. I told Chris that I just couldn't leave Collin at home. He was too young for me to be away from him that long. So it all worked out. The resort we stayed at had a babysitting service that came to our room the night of the party. Collin took his first plane ride this past weekend and was a champ. He did perfect and I was so glad we were able to take him along.
His first plane ride....
Me and my Honey!

All dressed up, the night of the party!
( I like to call it our adult prom...)
Collin and Daddy in our hotel
Collin looking out the window, we were on our way home...
Carter had a great weekend with his Mimi. He had lots of sugar and played hard. I guess that is what Mimi's  are good for. We were glad to get home to see him as well. Carter has been so sad lately about his Daddy always being gone. He came to the bottom of the stairs the other night while he was supposed to be in bed. He was sitting there crying and when I asked what was wrong he told me "I'm sad." I asked him why he was sad and he burst into tears saying "I wan my Daddy!" Oh, it broke my heart. I will be so glad when Chris is done with school. I can't stand for Carter to be "sad".  He loves his Daddy so much. I'm so grateful that they have such a wonderful relationship and it will be much better when Daddy is there for bedtime again. One more year, we can do it.

Collin is doing great! He has two teeth!!!! Can you believe that? He sleeps well and is such a happy baby! He is 4 months old this month and changing so fast. He has his well check on Thursday. I am curious to find out how much he weighs. I will let you know!

Resting with Daddy on the front porch after working on the house. Daddy is giving him coke, no wonder he is a Daddy's boy! ;)

This is how I found him the other day during nap time. Naked and with all his toys on the bed with him!

Playing in the dirt with rocks!

When I found him like this he said, "Mommy I'm your baby right?"

John 9:1-5

Collin is getting so big and changing so much every day! He is 3 months old and wearing 6-9 month clothes. He is a big boy! He has a sweet, happy spirit and shines his light into my life daily with his sweet smile! These are some pictures I took today as we were spending some time outside on the porch!

When the doctors told me that Collin was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome millions of thoughts and questions flooded my brain. One of them being "What could I have done to cause this?" or "What could I have done to prevent it?" Our doctors here in M-town as well as our doctors at Scottish Rites Children's Hospital reassured Chris and I that there was nothing we could have done to cause this. As much as I wanted to believe them there has still been a small part of me that was burdened with the thought that maybe this was my fault. Well a week or so ago I had found a few minutes in the chaos of our day to sit down and spend some time in God's word. I have not been in a study or reading any specific chapter so I placed my hands on the cover of my bible and asked the Lord to open it up to where he would want me to read. And when you ask you do receive. I opened my bible up to the book of John. Surprisingly the boys continued to nap so I enjoyed the rare time and continued to read. I came to John chapter 9.

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work, While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
John 9:1-5

Wow! Collin's ABS wasn't because of something I did, it is so that the work of God might be displayed in his life! God really delivered me from that guilt and worry that some how this was my fault. He replaced those feelings with excitement and anticipation for how God is going to use Collin life to glorify his kingdom. Isn't God amazing! We have questions, He has the answers, and they are right in the pages of his word!
